Marbella town hall has introduced a new regulation aimed at addressing abandoned construction sites, deteriorated buildings, and unused plots across the city. The measure, which came into force recently, gives the municipality stronger legal tools to intervene in cases where property owners fail to meet their obligations.
Under the new rules, authorities can require owners to carry out necessary works, begin construction, or even sell the property. If they do not comply, the town hall can step in to complete the project itself or through a third party, with costs passed on to the owner. In some cases, properties may be subject to forced sale or incorporated into municipal assets if no buyers are found.
The regulation applies to undeveloped plots, halted construction projects, unsafe or uninhabitable buildings, and properties in a state of ruin. It aims to improve safety, public image, and urban quality, while preventing long-term neglect.
Owners will be given specific deadlines to act, typically one year, before further action is taken. The initiative is designed to reduce urban decay and encourage responsible development, contributing to a more orderly and attractive city environment.
