Malaga Airport continues to break records as one of Spain’s busiest and best-connected airports, now ranking fourth nationwide for the highest number of direct flight connections. With 157 destinations across 38 countries, the gateway to the Costa del Sol is surpassed only by Madrid, Barcelona, and Palma de Mallorca.
During the current high season, which runs from March through October, Malaga Airport is operating an unprecedented 114,000 flights, offering nearly 21 million seats. The airport’s remarkable connectivity is supported by 62 airlines, providing vital links across Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and North America.
While Madrid and Barcelona lead with 218 destinations each, and Palma de Mallorca with 194, Malaga’s network is notable for its ongoing expansion into new and distant markets. A key highlight for 2025 is the upcoming pilot flight by Korean Air in October, establishing a direct link between Malaga and Seoul. This route, operated by a Boeing 777-300ER, reflects successful promotional efforts and growing demand from South Korea.
Malaga also boasts strong year-round connections to Asia via Turkish Airlines’ flights and the newly launched Qatar Airways route to Doha. The airport has solidified routes to the Middle East, including summer services to Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Riyadh, and Tel Aviv. Its reach into North Africa includes regular flights to major Moroccan cities such as Marrakech and Casablanca, as well as seasonal connections to Luxor, Egypt.
Regionally, Malaga dominates Andalusia’s air traffic with 157 of the region’s 294 total connections, far outpacing Seville, Almeria, and other airports.
As passenger numbers and flight operations soar, Malaga Airport exemplifies a successful balance between capacity, connectivity, and strategic expansion — reinforcing its status as a premier international hub serving the dynamic Costa del Sol.
